African catfish (<i>Clarias gariepinus</i>) larvae were fed on five preparations of decapsulated Great Salt Lake <i>Artemia</i> cysts: 1) dried (35°C, 6 h) and UV-irradiated cysts; 2) heated cysts (80°C, 10 min); 3) brine dehydrated and UV irradiated cysts; 4) micro-bound diet 1(with intact decapsulated cysts used in diet preparation 1); and 5) micro-bound diet 2 (with crushed and shifted decapsulated diet used in diet preparation 1). The larvae were fed from the first day after yolk-sac resorption (fourth day after hatching). After a 14-d rearing period, larvae fed on dried or heated decapsulated cysts or micro-bound diet 1. Feeding micro-bound diet 2 resulted in a significantly lower average gain in weight as compared to the other... |

The Rotterdam model is used to obtain estimates of demand parameters for meat products in Taiwan, South Korea, and Japan. Unlike most previous studies of demand systems, the model takes into account simultaneous-equation bias which arises due to the endogeneity of total expenditure. Beef, pork, and chicken are separable from marine products for each Pacific Rim country. However, demand elasticities for beef, pork, and chicken are different among the various Pacific Rim nations. One may not then use the elasticity estimates of a particular country and apply them to other Pacific Rim markets. |

Alem do chuchu, estao incluidos nesta familia a melancia, o melao, as aboboras, as morangas, o pepino, o maxixe, a bucha e muitos outros. O Brasil e o maior produtor do mundo dessa hortalica de frutos, tendo produzido, em 1993, cerca de 400.000 t, considerando-se apenas as lavouras cujos frutos foram comercializados atraves... |

A dynamic model is developed to analyze farmers' irrigation investment and crop choice decisions under alternative water quality protection policies. The model is applied to an empirical example in the Oklahoma High Plains. The choices of crops and irrigation systems and the resulting levels of irrigation, income, and nitrogen runoff and percolation are simulated over a ten-year period. An effluent tax on nitrogen runoff and percolation is shown to be effective in reducing nitrate pollution. The efficacy of cost sharing in adopting modern irrigation technologies and restrictions on irrigation water use depends on soil type. A tax on nitrogen use is shown to be the least effective policy. |

A hedonic price function, relating the price of Australian wine to its attributes, is estimated. Six attribute groups are found to be statistically important in explaining deviations from average wine prices, i.e., quality, cellaring potential, grape variety/style, grape region, grape vintage and producer size. Various interaction terms between these variables and the impact of the year of marketing are also modelled. The consequent marketing implications for producers and consumers are discussed. |
